How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Great for the Kids or the Grown-up Table

Welcome to the 633rd Tablescape Thursday, a blog party sharing beautiful table settings for all occasions!

I should probably be sharing a Thanksgiving table this week since Thanksgiving is just two weeks away, but I’ve been itching to play with some new “glasses” I purchased recently. The good thing about sharing this table now is if you love the glasses, they should still be available since I just bought them a week or two ago. If you’re looking for inspiration for your Thanksgiving table, you’ll find that here: Thanksgiving Table Settings.

I’m pretending this is the children’s table, but truth be told, I would gladly be seated here for a Christmas dinner. lol

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Table Setting

Hope you don’t mind, but Mr. Grinch whose heart grew three times bigger recently (thus the big smile on his face) will be joining us for dinner this week. He brought along his slightly leaning Christmas tree to adorn our the center of our table. 😉

He’s super excited because he heard we were going to be using his favorite Grinchy plates.

Sitting at the Kid's Table, Fun Table Idea for Children

I fell in love with these plates when I saw them last year and had to have a set. I’ve always loved the movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas…the original 1966 version. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Jim Carrey version. Should I watch it?

Grinch Salad Plates

It appears the Grinch plates are available again this year. I’m tempted to buy another set so I’ll have a few extras.

Update added later: Here’s a closer view of the plates taken in natural light later in the day when the sun came out.

I love all the little Whos standing hand-in-hand in a circle around the edge of the plate. Soooo cute! If you need a set of these, you’ll find them here: Grinch Salad/Dessert Plates.

Grinch Christmas Plates, Adorable

The tartan dinner plates are available here: Tartan Dinner Plates.

Grinch Christmas Plates, How the Grinch Stole Christmas

In honor of Max (the Grinch’s cute pooch) and his one antler, I’m using reindeer antlers for our napkin rings. Pretty sure I found those in Pier 1 a few years back.

Red Flatware for Christmas Holiday Table

These are the adorable “glasses” that inspired this table. I couldn’t resist these cute ball ornament glasses when I spotted them recently while shopping. I think my grandsons will love them when they are here in a couple of weeks. They come in silver, green and red and are non-breakable so great for kids! I ended up buying two of each color.

If you need some of these for a Christmas gathering, you’ll find them available in red, green, and silver here: Ornament Glasses.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Holiday Table

I’ve had Mr. Grinch for many, many years, probably 10-15 years ago. I think I found him in a Hallmark store–it’s been sooo many years, hard to remember. Can’t remember where I found the sleigh, again have had it for many, many years.

One more update: This photo taken later in the day in natural lighting when the sun came out better shows the true colors of everything used for this table.

Christmas Table Setting, Tablescape in Tartan with Grinch Stole Christmas Theme

If the sun comes out today, I’ll try to take a few photos in natural light and add them to this post. It’s been so rainy here lately. Can you see all the green still on the trees in my backyard? It was so hot yesterday, I put on my summer tops! Fall is slowly coming to Georgia, a few of the trees are starting to change color now. Has fall arrived in your area, yet?

If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up. You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate.

That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses and scammers from linking up to sell their products. (Yep, that really happens, unfortunately.) If you see a post that’s not table setting related, let me know and I’ll remove it.

Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links.

Please link up table setting or table setting related posts only for Tablescape Thursday.

Super cute! I love the Christmas ball glasses and the Grinch plates are awesome! I am also not sure if I am turning my Dining room table into Thanksgiving or Christmas – I feel like I am in full Red and Green mode now. Thank you for sharing. -Jackie

  2. Linda Page Gurganus says

I love the ornament glasses. I will definitely join you at that table!! I prefer the original Grinch. I don’t care for the Jim Carey version. But then I am not a fan of his anyway. Really cute tablescape.

  3. Such a darling table! Your grandsons will LOVE that. You know don’t you, that you are conditioning them to anticipate the tables you will set for them! What a GREAT reason for setting a fun table! The plates are adorable…..and I always love how you carry the theme into the centerpiece! Very sweet and playful!!!!

  4. Fall did arrive up here, a couple of hours north of you in the GA mountains, but summer has tried to sneak back in the last few days. I love this table, and I’d happily sit there with you. Those ornament glasses are darling. Might have to get a few of those for my grandchildren to enjoy.

  5. Darlene Gardner says

Susan, your grandsons will love this table! So cute! And those ornament glasses are so unique. You amaze me with all your creativity!

  6. Thank you so much for hosting! This week I am excited to share a post all about the season of thanks and sharing my latest project: my vintage camper decorated for fall. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!

  7. Cute table, Susan. The Grinch plates are adorable. Of course I’m a fan of the story! I have the napkins but never used them with plaid. Will now!!!

  8. Dorinda Selke says

Hi Susan ~ autumn has come and gone here in Northwestern CT ! The only colored leaves left on our trees are the yellow sugar maples and the brown oaks. We had Indian Summer this past week with temps in the 70’s but the temperature is heading back down probably till May !

Yes Yes you should definitely watch The Grinch with Jim Carey! He should have won an Oscar for his performance of the Grinch. The movie is loosely based on the book, but different in fun ways. Your grandchildren would enjoy it too. Do a family movie night when they come. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving ~ We have so much to be grateful for ! Hugs, Dorinda

  9. Cecilia from Georgia says

Now that Eta has passed through GA, the weather is beautiful and warm. This is a fun table and can be enjoyed by all ages! Love your Grinch! Very nicely put together:)

  10. Elaine in Toronto says

Yes, you must see the Jim Carey version of “The Gringe Who Stole Christmas”. It’s the gringe-est! Watch it with your grandsons.

  11. So cute Susan – the Grinch is one of my favorites! I’d be happy to share the kids’ table with you! 🙂 Thanks for hosting, and Happy Thursday!

  12. Thanks Susan, your Grinch table is adorable!

  13. Franki Parde says

Those glasses are “da bomb!!” So cute table!! Rain…it’s a “4 letter word” anymore…our boathouse galley has 3in of water, both piers under water, and…it rains still. * sigh* “You’re a Mean One Mr 2020!! franki

  14. Linda Nixon says

I would stick with the earlier version of the Grinch. Jim Carey has a filthy mouth.

  15. Such a fun table. Love all of the parts. I live in Minnesota and we are on our second significant snowfall. We had snow a couple of weeks ago which melted when it was 80 degrees a couple of days later. Now we had another pretty thick layer this week, 7 inches in parts of my yard.

  16. What a great tablescape. I love the plaid tablecloth and plates. Thank You for sharing.
    Marilyn

  17. I told our daughter (she’s 27), that when she comes home for Christmas, we (3 of us) are having a Grinch night! I’m planning on a Roast Beef dinner and Who hash and green cocktails. We will then watch the Original Grinch movie.

  18. Susan, those plates are adorable, as is Mr. Grinch. Who could not like this? I am sure the grandsons will love it, and the Christmas ball glasses are so sweet. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  19. Rebecca Egan says

Didn’t you post a picture with different chargers? Not the brown straw… interested what they were

  20. No one does traditional Christmas colors and plaids as well as you do, Susan. What a fun table!!

Thank you for hosting. I am happy to be joining in the fun this time around, though I am pushing it a bit because my pics full tablescape of my little tea party didn’t turn out well enough to post. I do have several table vignettes I shared though. Hope that’s ok.

  21. BOBBI DUNCAN says

Susan, I love your whimsical Christmas setting and know your grandsons will as well. The ornament tumblers are great! I agree w/ Michele M. about your tablescape color combinations being top-notch–you really do have a knack for mixing patterns and colors beautifully. Hugs!

  22. That’s adorable. I love how your being close with your grandsons has given you new inspiration in both shopping and designing. 🙂 We had two days of rainy, cloudy weather, and it’s cooler now, more like fall. I’ve baking and decorating (but first UNdecorating fall stuff!).

  23. I wanted to order my grands the ornament glasses but I wasn’t able to locate them. Y p.o ur table is the cutest.

  24. The Grinch is my favorite Christmas Movie along with The Christmas Story. I decorate my bedroom with The Grinch with the tree, bed throw and all. I love your table especially the dishes. I would love to see all your dishes, you amaze me. I thought my sister and I loved different dishes but I think you have us beat. Have a great Thanksgiving and a even better Christmas.

  25. Brenda s. Lawrence says

I love, love, love this table setting Susan! It is adorable. I love Mr. Grinch, and yes you should watch the Jim Carey version of the movie. The tree is perfect and I love the way it is leaning. lol Those ornament glasses are so cute! Great for the kiddo’s and I know they will love them too. The plates are so cool, love them with your tartan chargers. I would love to sit at this table as well, not just for kids! lol Hugs, Brenda

  26. Love this table – so cute! You are correct about the Grinch coming from Hallmark about 15 years ago. I remember buying four of them at the after Christmas sale. An ice storm delayed our big family Christmas gathering that year and I gave the Grinches as gifts to my brother and Sisters. You brought back a fun memory for me!

  27. Elena Wortman says

I LOVE your Grinch table! I did a Grinch kids’ table last Christmas for the first time and I had so much fun. I was able to find the Grinch dishes and beverage glasses in unbreakable melamine. My Grinch table dishes and decorations were 95% unbreakable–very important when the kiddies range from 3 to 11 years old!

I’m not hosting big family Thanksgiving dinner this year, too weary from my mom’s recent death. However, I will be doing a relatively small family Christmas dinner, and I will be setting up my Grinch kids’ table again. :0)

Thanks for posting this great Grinch tablescape, Susan, it put a great big smile on my face.

  28. I love, love, your tablescapes. I tried to find the ornament cups too but I couldn’t find them either. I also tried the web site you sent to Deborah but I couldn’t find them on their either. Any other suggestions.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
