It’s back in print! What am I talking about? In 1982, Martha Stewart released her very first book titled Entertaining. I’m not sure when Entertaining went out of print, but it’s back in print now, and they have done their best to stay true to the original book, right down to the dedications, which even included Martha’s ex-husband.
I purchased Entertaining many years ago when I finally came to my senses and realized how much better and less expensive it was to collect older decorating and entertaining books than it was to buy new magazines that were mostly just ads. I’d much rather have a beautiful, hardback book filled from cover to cover with wonderful pictures than a magazine with only a handful of pictures of a featured home. From what I’ve read, the original 1982 version of Entertaining is nearly impossible to find now. I love that they decided to bring it back for those who may have missed it the first time around.

Since I’ve moved about 85 percent of my decor/gardening/recipe books to the Dollhouse, I checked to see if I had my copy here, and I do. When I purchased it many years ago, it was used but in excellent condition. It only has a small amount of edgewear to its dust jacket.

Here’s the copyright page from the 1982 printing.

True to Martha’s style, it has some wonderful ideas for entertaining, including this beautiful ice chiller. I love how it includes roses and greenery! Is that boxwood? Sooo pretty! Imagine placing a bottle of water or wine inside, then placing it on an outdoor table for a spring luncheon.

Here’s how this wine chiller is described in the book…

Many years ago, I made a different type of wine chiller. I shared the process of making it in this previous post: Create Your Own Ice Wine Chiller.

You’ll find 7 additional pages/images from the book, along with more detailed information about the book, here: Entertaining by Martha Stewart.

One more thing I wanted to share today is these refrigerator handle covers that I just purchased a couple of weeks ago. I have never had this issue with my white Kitchenaid Superba refrigerator back in Georgia, but the handles of my stainless LG refrigerator seem to spawn fingerprints. I am constantly cleaning them off throughout the day! Anyone else have this issue with their stainless steel refrigerator?

I’ve had these covers on the handles for over a week, and I love them! They are washable when needed, but so far, they have held up beautifully and haven’t shown any dirt or fingerprints. If you are also fighting the never-ending fingerprint issue with the handles of your stainless steel refrigerator, you’ll find these available in five colors here: Refrigerator Door Handle Covers. I went with gray color, but they are also available in a “light gray” color. I love how they feel when opening the fridge…so soft!

I’ll leave you with this photo of my two shadows that follow me everywhere I go, especially when I head to the kitchen. lol Beatrice (on the left) is trying to talk me out of a second breakfast while Agatha offers emotional support.

See you tomorrow for Metamorphosis Monday!

I love those two furry girls! They are adorable. I know you are enjoying them immensely. Gotta love Martha’s first book!!
Thanks, Linda! They keep me laughing all day, they are hilarious!
Hello,
Love your new additions to your family. Beatrice and Agatha have stolen my heart.
Sincerely,
Patricia
Aww, I know the feeling! They are love bugs, always wanting to be held.
My neighbor’s refrigerator broke unexpectedly. When they bought a new one they picked the “other finish” because it was less expensive. Always a battle with fingerprints. You would think they would stop using that finish on doors and handles.
The fur babies are so cute. Mine are a small breed. The one with long hair is the Cookie Monster. She loves treats.
There is a cat video on Pinterest with Penny the cat. Addictive.
They sound so cute, Myrna! ♥
Well…you can bet I ordered a set of the refrigerator handles….I have the same annoying issue as you! I’m constantly wiping the handles….from fingerprints, etc. Thanks so much for sharing them!
Isn’t it crazy?! I don’t understand how or why they show everything! It’s maddening! I hope you find them as helpful as I have. I’m loving them so far!
Awesome, thanks! I could still kick myself for not buying a MS book on gardening at an estate sale years ago. I am one by one letting magazine expire.
Wow! Susan, I had that book back in the 80s. I was known as the “Martha Stewart” of my family. One Thanksgiving, I hosted the dinner with my husband at the time. I followed the recipe for the turkey gravy, left out a paragraph of instructions and it still came out fabulous. lol
Martha’s book is still in the cabinet above the refrigerator where I stored my cookbooks, at my ex-husband’s home.
You brought back many happy memories of entertaining family, friends and guests from all over the world. My parties were 100 guests with discriminating tastes, and they loved my ex-husband’s secret recipe hamburgers on the grill.
I am forever grateful for those 19 years of entertaining and world travel. I also did table scapes for the holidays. Now, my life is simple, fruitful and joyful.
Thank you, again!
That sounds amazing, Barbara! I would love to have attended one of your gatherings!
I’ve done that before, missed a section in a recipe. Usually, it doesn’t turn out so well when I do that. lol
When I’ve read about Martha’s career, all I can think is that she must have never slept. She must be one of those folks who can go on 4 hours sleep or something to accomplish all that she has over her lifetime!
I loved that book and what fun to know they brought it back – let’s face it, she was The Original to be sure. And those kittens, SO cute!!!! My niece put a small Christmas tree in her freshly repainted and redecorated bedroom this weekend and this morning discovered her cat knocked the tree over and most of the bulbs broke. Hint: to keep animals away from things like furniture, drapes and, well, Christmas trees – spray essence of watered down lavender essential oil on them or near them (test fabrics first!) I have NEVER had a cat get into trouble when I did that. Highly works.
I still have that book, as well as some of her others from the time. Lol. some friends used to call me Martha Junior because I loved decorating and entertaining with beautiful tablescapes and food. Things are simpler around here now but I still appreciate Martha, and feel she was unjustly treated. She overcame and rose above it all though. Good example.
LOVE your cute little fur babies. So sweet.
Those beautiful kittens get more gorgeous with every picture that you post! I love them. Seeing their pictures just makes my day! Thank you.
The kittens are so cute. I’m tempted, again……… I will be ordering those covers as well, I do have a question, is your fridge a counter depth? If so, how do you like it? Pros and cons. Happy Thanksgiving!
It is counter-depth. I like it, but there are a few things I do not like.
1. I don’t like that it doesn’t have separate controls for the ice and the water. At least 2-3 times a month, I press the paddle expecting ice and get water, and vice versa. My fridge in GA has separate paddles for that.
If you buy a fridge that doesn’t have the ice/water on the outside, like my son/DIL’s fridge, you won’t make that mistake since they access the water button inside their Bosch fridge and scoop ice from the bottom.
2. My biggest complaint is that it doesn’t make enough ice for me, so I can’t imagine it making enough for a family of 3-4 in the summertime. I can’t even use my Ice Tea Maker to make ice because if I dump ALLLLL of the ice out of the icemaker container when it’s completely full, it’s still not enough ice to make ice tea with my ice tea maker. So a couple of times a month, I have to buy ice and store it in the already too small freezer on this refrigerator so I can use my ice tea maker to make tea. The icemaker on my 20+ year old Kitchenaid Superba makes/holds more than enough ice to make ice tea with the ice tea maker and still have A LOT left over in the bin.
3. In order to keep its pathetically small ice bin filled, I have to press a button on the front of the fridge door every 24 hours to tell it to keep making ice. No, I’m not kidding. 🙁
4. I wanted to try a French Door style fridge since I like how they look, but I often end up having to open both doors to find something I want from the fridge. I never have that issue with my Kitcheaid Side-by-side Superba.
I like the separate front door section…see that in this post: https://betweennapsontheporch.net/how-do-i-like-my-new-lg-instaview-door-in-door-counter-depth-refrigerator/#comment-1074334
Be sure and read the comments on that post. You’ll see one person say that she “banks” ice to use because she knows that she’s bound to run out. I do that, too. If, for some reason I’m away all day, I will dump the ice bin into a bag before I go to bed to save for a day I run out.
The ice also melts fast when you put it in a glass, much faster than the ice that comes out of my Kitchenaid fridge in Ga. The repairman who came out to replace both icemakers since the ice was tasting salty, said that the ice melts faster because it doesn’t get as hard as ice that comes out of refrigerators that have the icemaker in the freezer section of the refrigerator, like my Superbag side-by-side refrigerator. I should do a 1 year review post of this fridge.
I don’t like the square boxy look of Bosch refrigerators, which is why I went with this LG model. It does make craft ice which is tennis ball size ice balls, but I bag those up for my grandsons to use since they love those for their school thermos bottles, since it melts slowly througout their school day. I don’t use the ball ice since I don’t think it makes a drink as cold as smaller ice cubes do.
Would I buy it again? No, I don’t think so. It’s pretty, but the people who designed it have no idea how ice-loving Americans live and what they want from a refrigerator. I’d much rather have my 20+ year old, white Kitchenaid side-by-side refrigerator than this one. If I ever move to the Dollhouse full-time, I’m bringing that fridge with me to put in the garge or the basement so I don’t have to buy ice anymore.
OMG! Those babies are so cute! 🙂
