Living Room Makeover

Welcome to  The 18th Metamorphosis Monday! I have a wonderful Before and After to share with you this week.  A while back I shared several pics of this beautiful dining room belonging to Brian, a wonderfully talented Interior Designer, whose design business is Brian Joseph Atmospheres. Recently, Brian completed a new design project where he dramatically transformed several rooms in an historic … [Read more...]

Frozen in Time…

Many, years ago, when my son was around 8 years old, I painted a very amateurish mural on one whole wall in his room. The mural is around 13 feet wide by 8 feet tall. He always loved baseball and played it Spring and Fall from 2nd grade all the way through high school.   Over the years, I never got around to painting over the mural, and my son never seemed to mind. So, though he is all grown … [Read more...]

Old Bound Newspapers Become End Table

Welcome to the 17th Metamorphosis Monday! Many, many years ago, The Macon Telegraph and News decided to dispose of all the old copies of their past publications/newspapers. Apparently, news organizations used to keep copies of their old papers by binding them into large "books." Each bound volume, shown below, had about three months worth of newspapers. I had six of these large books stored for … [Read more...]

Recently I was chatting via e-mail with my friend, Toni. She shared two wonderful pics of a beautiful tablescape she created for a Women's Spring Luncheon held at her church. Deck Transformation, Winter to Spring

Since most everyone who visits Between Naps on the Porch has seen my two porches, I thought I'd share a different area today. There are decks off either side of my screened-in porch and one of those decks has a cozy little corner over near the grill. It's the perfect spot to sit if you want to be near the grill while you are cooking out. This is the winter view...pretty blah. And here's the summer … [Read more...]

Flower Cubes For a Summer Party

Summer is waning and fall is just around the corner. I can feel it the air when I'm out on the porch during these late summer evenings. Before long, at least here in the south, gardeners will be pouring into the nurseries in search of pansies for their annual beds. Pansies enjoy the cooler weather and if planted in early fall, they will put down good roots that will carry them through the colder temps we … [Read more...]

Sipping on a steaming mug of hot chocolate, with a crackling fire close by, I must have dozed off. I couldn't believe my eyes when I awoke! After stuffing themselves silly with tea and scones all night at Gollum's, these two … [Read more...]

Decorating with Wreaths for Christmas

I'm not sure what it is about wreaths, but I just love them! I think it's their "wholeness"...the way they feel so complete. The circular shape is said to represent eternity--no beginning and no end. When I first moved into my current home 18 years ago, I continued a tradition I had started at my previous home...that of hanging wreaths outside on the windows at Christmas time. I was the only one in my … [Read more...]

Decorating the Front Porch for Christmas, 2008

Today, I'm sharing a bit of my outdoor Christmas decorations. If you come see me, as you pull into the driveway, you'll see the Lazy Hill Dove Cote on your immediate left. Sadly, there are no bluebirds nesting there this time of year. But stay tuned...they just may be back in the spring since they nested in there three times this past spring. If you would like to see some cute pics of the bluebirds feeding … [Read more...]

Cranberry Trifle

As promised, here's the recipe for the Cranberry Trifle I made for my neighborhood cookie party. The recipe comes from the current (December 2008) issue of Everyday Food. If you want a copy of the magazine, I found it in the check-out isle at Publix...it's about the size of a Reader's Digest. Cranberry Trifle 2 bags (12 oz each) cranberries, fresh or frozen (I used fresh) 2 1/4 cups granulated … [Read more...]

Christmas Table Setting with Lenox, Winter Greetings

Welcome to the 17th Tablescape Tuesday! The table is set for a Christmas feast... China is Winter Greetings by Lenox. The pattern features classically rendered holly branches, mistletoe, chickadees, cardinals, berries, and ribbons. It was designed by artist Catherine McClung who is beloved by collectors for her accurate and vibrant bird portraiture. When I came across this Lenox … [Read more...]

Christmas Decorating on the Porch

I'm coming up for air!  I've been running around like a chicken with it's head...well, you know... getting ready for the neighborhood cookie party. Last count...expecting around 25 people. I've been grocery shopping, vacuuming, cleaning, cleaning some more, dusting...did I mention I've been cleaning! I've been de-furring the chairs...Max has his favorite spots for his afternoon naps and I don't think my … [Read more...]

A Christmas Tree for the Porch

I've been busy this last week decorating for Christmas and preparing for the neighborhood Ladies Cookie Party that will be at my house Sunday afternoon. Even though the weather is a bit chilly for hanging out on the screened-in porch, I thought I'd dress it up a bit since it's visible from inside. And maybe, just maybe, Sunday will be nice enough to venture out for a bit. Last week was in the 30's and today … [Read more...]

Three Tablescapes

Welcome to the 16th Tablescape Tuesday! I will be posting a Christmas tablescape next Tuesday...don't have it ready just yet. So for this Tablescape Tuesday, I thought I'd post 3 pics of each of the tablescapes I've created over these past weeks for Tablescape Tuesday. The title of each tablescape is also a link to the actual posting, in case you want more information or wish to see more of that … [Read more...]

Christmas in Miniature, A Sweet Dollhouse

While out antiquing in December two years ago, I came across a wonderful old doll house. The exterior was already decorated for Christmas with garland strung across the banister rails and wreaths on several of the windows. It stole my heart but it was priced at $250, so reluctantly, I walked away. All during Christmas I kept thinking about the house. I knew absolutely nothing about dollhouses, having … [Read more...]

Weekend Antiquing Trip

Recently, when I was out antiquing in Roswell, Georgia, I came across a Christmas tree and yes, it was  pink!  Beverly, at How Sweet the Sound is hosting Pink Saturday so stop by and check it out. Look at all the wonderful vintage ornaments I found nearby...and yep...some were pink. Check out these forks! Can you guess why they are shaped this way? Here's a little sign that … [Read more...]

Stairway Banister Decorated for Christmas

During the month of December, I will be posting more pics of some of the holiday decor I have in my home. But today I wanted to share pics of a wonderfully decorated staircase that belongs to a good friend of mine, Joy. Joy lives in the beautiful state of Oregon. Unlike me, she actually enjoys cold weather and that white stuff we so rarely see here in Georgia. Can you believe she gets out and goes … [Read more...]

China Storage: Wishing for a Butler’s Pantry

Welcome to the 15th Tablescape Tuesday! I often get questions about where in the world I store the china I've collected over these past 30 years.   Well the answer to that is easy. Everywhere! Unfortunately, I do not have a "butler's pantry" like Interior Designer, Bunny Williams, though I desperately want one! In her book, An Affair With a House, Bunny writes this about her pantry pictured below, … [Read more...]

A Plate for All Seasons

In my kitchen, I have a little plate holder that for years held a red and white "rooster" plate. A while back I decided to make it more than just a plate holder with a decorative plate...now it's a fun way to mark the changing of the seasons, as well. So when February rolls around, it's time to think about cupid... And as it get closer to Easter... Once Easter has past, it's time to … [Read more...]

A Thanksgiving Table Setting with Spode Woodland

Welcome to the 14th Tablescape Tuesday! Recently I had a "china" panic attack! A china panic attack is what happens when you hear or read that a particular china manufacturer is trying to sell their business because they are fast headed in the direction of closing their doors. Unfortunately, there's a lot of that type news going around these days. The company I heard about was Spode and my little … [Read more...]

A Purr-fect View from the Porch…

Does anyone remember this? It was the main pic for my screened-in porch posting when I posted it on Rate My Space. This is the summer view. {{{BIG SIGH}}} When I stretched out on the settee this past summer and looked up, this was the view... For the past few weeks, the view has been changing with each passing day. The green has given way to yellows, reds, browns and golds....and before long, it … [Read more...]

Decorating for Christmas

Over the years, I've collected a good many vintage Christmas ornaments. I had originally planned to have a "vintage" tree, but this year I decided to group a few of them together in a footed glass container here in the family room. Instead of the expected tassel...I hung a little berry wreath from the key. Merry Christmas! … [Read more...]

Pretty in Pink Cottage Tablescape

Welcome to the 13th Tablescape Tuesday! I've been busy caulking and painting in my dining room so I didn't have a chance to put together a brand new tablescape for today's Tablescape Tuesday. A Feather Christmas Tree for the Guest Room

Recently I found this cute feather tree at Michaels.  Wasn't sure how I'd use it but once I got home, I knew just the place. I placed the tree in my Guest bedroom. When I have guest during the holiday season, I always plug it in just before it gets dark. That way, when my guest are ready to retire for the evening, they are greeted by this view as they enter the room. Last year, I bought this … [Read more...]

Winter Table Setting with Swarovski Crystal Ornament Centerpiece

Welcome to the 12th Tablescape Tuesday! Let's celebrate the approach of the holiday season with a tablescape that has the feel of a snowy evening. I've dimmed the lights and lit the candles...so glad you've stopped by this chilly winter night. The centerpiece for our winter-scape is a silver "tree" covered in 17 Swarovski crystal ornaments. I've been collecting them since 1991, when Swarovski … [Read more...]

Photography That Will Make You Hungry…

Take a look at these amazing pics! Nice, huh? Well here's the shocker...all the items shown in these pics are actually FOOD! These scenes are the work of Carl Warner and they are all created using only food! If you look closely you can identify the food used to create them. Is the river (or ocean) chocolate milk? Can you imagine the time it took to do all these?! I read at the artist's website … [Read more...]

A Magnolia & Lemon Centerpiece

Welcome to the 11th Tablescape Tuesday! On one of my trips to A Classy Flea this past summer, I came across this happy daisy china.  It was love at first sight! I used place mats and matching napkins I already had. The faux bamboo flatware is from Big Lots...very inexpensive but I love it. This is an American made dishware and it dates back to the 1960s. It was made by Metlox Potteries out … [Read more...]

Five Minute Wreath Spring Summer Wreath

There are two doors leading from my screened-in porch into my home. One takes you into the family room, the other into the kitchen. During the summer, I tried to find a pretty wreath to hang on the door to the kitchen, but the prices I kept seeing were way more than I wanted to spend. One day as I was bumping around inside a store we have here in the Atlanta area called Old Time Pottery, I came across … [Read more...]

Tour a Beautiful Historic Victorian Home in Newnan, Georgia

I'm a member of The Georgia Trust and twice a year (Spring and Fall) they host a "Ramble." A ramble is just that...rambling around through the town where the tour is being held and rambling in and out of some amazing historic homes. The ramble, which took place a couple of weeks ago, was in the town of Newnan, Georgia. Fortunately, Newnan was largely untouched by the American Civil War due to its status … [Read more...]

Dreaming of Lace…

I came across this picture in a magazine and unfortunately, I can no longer remember the name of it now. It stopped me dead in my tracks. Does that ever happen to you? It doesn't happen to me very often. I have perused so many decorating magazines and books over the years that it takes something really different to grab my eye. After I closed my mouth before a big honking fly flew in, I drooled over the … [Read more...]

A Springtime Table Setting with Ma Maison

Welcome to the 9th Tablescape Tuesday! My screened-in porch was finished in early spring. Just before the work was complete, I went on a serious shopping spree for "stuff" I would need for this new space. Blue and White Guest Room

My guest room was one of the first rooms I ever furnished/decorated after we moved in. I love blue and white so when I found this Ralph Lauren comforter set called, "Porcelain" I decided to go with a blue and white theme. In March 2010, I added a secretary to this room.  When I was working on adding some things to this room, I knew I wanted to mix it up a bit. Welcome to the 8th Tablescape Tuesday! The following tablescape is one I posted on Rate My Space many months back. I didn't want to use a typical floral centerpiece, so I scouted around the house for something I already had that might work well with a red and white tablescape. A Love Story…City Girl Meets Country Boy…

Earlier in the summer, pics of the most amazing home appeared on RMS. This wonderfully cozy home turned out to be the home of Laura (Tomarie on RMS) and her real, live cowboy husband, Tom.
