Pretty in Pink Cottage Tablescape

Welcome to the 13th Tablescape Tuesday! I've been busy caulking and painting in my dining room so I didn't have a chance to put together a brand new tablescape for today's Tablescape Tuesday. But I thought you might not mind too much if I posted a Pink and White tablescape I put together a couple of months ago for a Pink Saturday which is hosted each week by Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. One day, … [Read more...]

A Feather Christmas Tree for the Guest Room

Recently I found this cute feather tree at Michaels.  Wasn't sure how I'd use it but once I got home, I knew just the place. I placed the tree in my Guest bedroom. When I have guest during the holiday season, I always plug it in just before it gets dark. That way, when my guest are ready to retire for the evening, they are greeted by this view as they enter the room. Last year, I bought this … [Read more...]

Winter Table Setting with Swarovski Crystal Ornament Centerpiece

Welcome to the 12th Tablescape Tuesday! Let's celebrate the approach of the holiday season with a tablescape that has the feel of a snowy evening. I've dimmed the lights and lit the candles...so glad you've stopped by this chilly winter night. The centerpiece for our winter-scape is a silver "tree" covered in 17 Swarovski crystal ornaments. I've been collecting them since 1991, when Swarovski … [Read more...]

Photography That Will Make You Hungry…

Take a look at these amazing pics! Nice, huh? Well here's the shocker...all the items shown in these pics are actually FOOD! These scenes are the work of Carl Warner and they are all created using only food! If you look closely you can identify the food used to create them. Is the river (or ocean) chocolate milk? Can you imagine the time it took to do all these?! I read at the artist's website … [Read more...]

A Magnolia & Lemon Centerpiece

Welcome to the 11th Tablescape Tuesday! On one of my trips to A Classy Flea this past summer, I came across this happy daisy china.  It was love at first sight! I used place mats and matching napkins I already had. The faux bamboo flatware is from Big Lots...very inexpensive but I love it. This is an American made dishware and it dates back to the 1960s. It was made by Metlox Potteries out … [Read more...]

Blue and White Tablescape

Welcome to the 10th Tablescape Tuesday! Your's truly wasn't able to post a tablescape this week since I was out of town visiting a friend in South Carolina all weekend and didn't get in until late tonight. So I thought I would repost a beautiful setting that I posted a few month's back, in case you missed it the first time around. This beautiful tablescape was done by Lynne who blogs at Lynne's Gifts … [Read more...]

Five Minute Wreath Spring Summer Wreath

There are two doors leading from my screened-in porch into my home. One takes you into the family room, the other into the kitchen. During the summer, I tried to find a pretty wreath to hang on the door to the kitchen, but the prices I kept seeing were way more than I wanted to spend. One day as I was bumping around inside a store we have here in the Atlanta area called Old Time Pottery, I came across … [Read more...]

Tour a Beautiful Historic Victorian Home in Newnan, Georgia

I'm a member of The Georgia Trust and twice a year (Spring and Fall) they host a "Ramble." A ramble is just that...rambling around through the town where the tour is being held and rambling in and out of some amazing historic homes. The ramble, which took place a couple of weeks ago, was in the town of Newnan, Georgia. Fortunately, Newnan was largely untouched by the American Civil War due to its status … [Read more...]

Seashell Chest

My birding vacation got in the way of shopping at the Flea for a couple of weekends...but I made a trip this week.  You won't believe what I left behind that I really wanted! I did buy two things that I'll share at the bottom of this post. This adorable chest was probably my favorite treasure this week at A Classy Flea...but alas, it was already sold. I took six pics of it though because I thought this … [Read more...]

Dreaming of Lace…

I came across this picture in a magazine and unfortunately, I can no longer remember the name of it now. It stopped me dead in my tracks. Does that ever happen to you? It doesn't happen to me very often. I have perused so many decorating magazines and books over the years that it takes something really different to grab my eye. After I closed my mouth before a big honking fly flew in, I drooled over the … [Read more...]

A Springtime Table Setting with Ma Maison

Welcome to the 9th Tablescape Tuesday! My screened-in porch was finished in early spring. Just before the work was complete, I went on a serious shopping spree for "stuff" I would need for this new space. One of those items on my shopping list was china...something special for those summer dinners on the porch. One day while shopping in Home Goods, I found the china of my dreams. Let's just … [Read more...]

Blue and White Guest Room

My guest room was one of the first rooms I ever furnished/decorated after we moved in. I love blue and white so when I found this Ralph Lauren comforter set called, "Porcelain" I decided to go with a blue and white theme. In March 2010, I added a secretary to this room.  When I was working on adding some things to this room, I knew I wanted to mix it up a bit. I fell in love with this floral Sanderson … [Read more...]

Vintage Copeland Spode

Welcome to the 8th Tablescape Tuesday! The following tablescape is one I posted on Rate My Space many months back. I didn't want to use a typical floral centerpiece, so I scouted around the house for something I already had that might work well with a red and white tablescape. This vintage china is made by Copeland Spode and the pattern is 'Tower'. The centerpiece is a bunny that was hand-made … [Read more...]

Beautiful Bras!

Recently, I was talking with Carol...some of you may know her as cedwards55 on RMS. Carol told me about a unique fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness that was about to take place in her area. This event had special significance for Carol and she explained, "October is Breast Cancer awareness month. Fourteen years ago (in October) I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My two sons were 3 and 7 at the time. … [Read more...]

A Love Story…City Girl Meets Country Boy…

Earlier in the summer, pics of the most amazing home appeared on RMS. I knew right away that the person(s) who lived there was special because this particular home was unique, exuded warmth and was positively enchanting. This wonderfully cozy home turned out to be the home of Laura (Tomarie on RMS) and her real, live cowboy husband, Tom. Well, being the incurable romantic that I am, I asked Laura if she … [Read more...]

Crocheted with Love

Welcome to the 6th Tablescape Tuesday! A few months back, I put together a tablescape using a crocheted luncheon set created by my Mom in 1956. Gollum did a wonderful posting about it on her blog, Designs by Gollum. I thought I would post it here on my blog in celebration of this week's Tablescape Tuesday. My Mom crocheted this luncheon set during the period she was awaiting my arrival. Despite many … [Read more...]

A Trip in my Time Machine: Here we come, 1921!

Remember these from my Bonus Room posting a few days ago? They are bound copies of old newspapers from the Macon Telegraph and News, the local newspaper in Macon, Georgia. My sister, Glenda, saved them from being destroyed when they were being discarded. I turned them into an end table for the bonus room. :-) Thought I'd share some of the advertisements and articles that were published in some of … [Read more...]

But, there's another part to the story...you'll never guess how Gloria got so many of those beautiful antiques home from the places where they were found. Bonus Room Becomes an Upstairs Family Room

A fter a little tease,  it's time for the reveal. A little background first... In Georgia, when a builder finishes the room above your garage, your home is said to have a "bonus" room. When I first walked through this house, that was to become my home, I was happy to see it did, indeed, have the oft desired bonus room. Then, surprisingly, the room sat almost empty for 3-4 years years while I stewed … [Read more...]

A Table Setting to Welcome Autumn

Welcome to the 4th Tablescape Tuesday! Fall is definitely in the air here in the Atlanta area. I blew all the leaves off the deck on Saturday and was shocked to see how many more had accumulated by Sunday morning. This will be my first fall on the porch, since the porch was just finished in early spring. Pretty in Pink Table Setting

One day, while shopping for china on eBay, I found a set of Homer Laughlin china with a pretty floral pattern. I bought six, 5-pc place settings and a serving bowl for around $36, including shipping...gotta love that eBay! Several months later, while out antiquing, I came across another set of china made by International. I loved the pattern, Glenwood, which has a wide pink band with a beautiful … [Read more...]

Feels like Home

Do you remember the day when you first stepped through the door of your home? Maybe you had just spent days trekking through house after house. Or perhaps it was the first home your realtor showed you. Either way, I bet as soon as you crossed the threshold, your heart said this is it--this is home. Friendships…

Friendships made on RMS are unique, because often times, we never actually get to meet each other face to face. We share so much in RMS land...the good times (front page) as well as the bad (troll, trolls, trolls). And sometimes bonds are made that in some ways feel stronger than many of the friendships we have right here at home. Then, every once in a while, if you're lucky, you get to meet face to … [Read more...]

A Nature Lovers Table Setting

Welcome to the 3rd Tablescape Tuesday! While on a little shopping trip a few months back, I found the red candlesticks shown below. I loved the bold red color and accents of iron. In Appreciation of Art, Meet my Friend, Annie and Artist, May Cao…

Recently, when I was chatting with Annie, a dear friend of mine, she mentioned she had done a "sitting" that day. I asked what a sitting was and Annie told me she occasionally sits or models for artists here in the Atlanta area. How interesting, I thought! I asked a lot of questions and Annie patiently answered. Decorating a Staircase with Vintage Photos and Mirrors

For many years after moving into my current home, I occasionally pondered the decorating dilemma of the long, seemingly endless wall that runs the length of the main stairway of my home. Eventually, a creaky little cob-webbed door opened ip in my befuddled brain and I recalled a visit to a friend's home many years before. I could see it now, her stairway wall was much shorter than mine, but is was covered … [Read more...]

Bluebirds Nesting in Lazy Hill Dovecote

For many years I've attempted to attract bluebirds to my yard. My interest in bluebirds started when I worked as a volunteer with the Chattahoochee Nature Center. During that time I learned bluebirds had in years past, (1960's and 70's) dramatically decreased in number. (Image from Wikipedia) This decrease was found to be due to use of pesticides and a loss of their natural habitat (natural nesting … [Read more...]
